Average Order Value (AOV)

Average order value (AOV) is the average revenue per completed order: total revenue divided by number of orders. It often responds faster to changes than conversion rate does.

Behavioral Economics

Behavioral economics studies how real human decisions depart from the rational-choice model, drawing on findings like loss aversion, anchoring, and the paradox of choice.

Cart Abandonment Rate

Cart abandonment rate is the share of shopping sessions where a visitor adds items to the cart but leaves without buying. The 2026 Baymard global median is 70.19%.

Concept Density

Concept density is the ratio of named entities (products, people, places, statistics, dates) to total words on a page, a signal of how substantive the content is.

E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness)

E-E-A-T is Google's content-quality framework: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. It became a primary ranking factor in the January 2026 Core Update.

Extractable Claim

An extractable claim is a single, self-contained sentence that names its source and year, so an AI engine can lift it into an answer without surrounding context.

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of structuring content so generative search engines like Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude cite your page in their answers.

Heading-Query Match

Heading-query match is the practice of writing H2 and H3 headings to mirror the questions people actually search, so generative engines can match them to queries.

llms.txt is a proposed standard for sites to publish a curated index of their highest-value content URLs for AI crawlers. Adoption is 5-10% of the top-10k web in May 2026; most AI crawlers don't read it yet, but Google is testing Lighthouse llms.txt checks and the cost to ship is one afternoon.

Loss Aversion

Loss aversion is the behavioral-economics finding that losses feel roughly twice as painful as equivalent gains. Kahneman and Tversky's 1979 prospect-theory paper introduced the concept; the finding has been replicated across hundreds of studies and is the mechanism behind cart-stage intervention framing.

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) is the lowest quantity a B2B operation will accept per product or per order. The lever protects unit economics; setting it correctly via cost-floor or tier-bridge methods is a strategic choice, not an arbitrary number.

Net-30 Payment Terms

Net-30 is the B2B payment term where the buyer pays 30 days after invoice date, rather than at checkout. Standard in B2B because procurement systems and AP cycles operate on weekly-to-monthly cadences; the seller takes credit risk unless a trade-credit platform carries it.

Paradox of Choice

The paradox of choice is the behavioral-economics finding that more options lead to lower decision rates, despite intuitive expectation. Iyengar and Lepper's 2000 jam study is the canonical demonstration; the finding generalises to ecommerce product grids.

Request for Quote (RFQ)

A Request for Quote (RFQ) is a B2B form where buyers request pricing on a non-listed quantity, configuration, or terms. Distinct from a standard checkout because price is negotiated, not pre-determined; the form itself becomes the qualification surface.

Citation Grounding

Citation grounding means attaching a source link to every factual claim an AI agent makes in a chat reply, so visitors can verify answers and operators can catch mistakes.

Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)

Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) is the Core Web Vitals metric that measures how much visible content moves around unexpectedly while a page loads and runs.

RAG Freshness

RAG freshness is the discipline of keeping a retrieval index in sync with live content, so an AI agent never answers from outdated pages.

Site-Wide CWV Scoring

Site-wide Core Web Vitals (CWV) scoring is Google's March-April 2026 update that changed CWV from a per-URL ranking signal to a domain-level signal. The 75th-percentile LCP, INP, and CLS across all of a domain's qualifying URLs grade the whole domain together; a handful of slow pages now drags every other page on the site.

Banner Blindness

Banner blindness is the habit of ignoring repeated, low-value page elements like banner ads, generic popups, and persistent chat icons after the brain learns they aren't useful.

Exit-Intent

Exit-intent is a signal that a visitor is about to leave a page, like the cursor racing toward the browser tab on desktop, used to trigger a last-moment offer.

Aha-Moment

The first action a new user takes that reliably predicts whether they will stick around. It usually sits a few steps past signup and shows up as a large retention gap.

Customer Lifetime Value (CLV)

Customer lifetime value (CLV) is the total revenue you can expect from a customer over the whole relationship, net of the cost to serve them.

RAG-Grounded Chat

A chat agent architecture where every response is grounded in retrieved context from the brand's own content (product pages, policy pages, FAQ, blog) rather than relying on the LLM's parametric knowledge alone. The 2026 default architecture for ecommerce and SaaS conversational interfaces.

Rive State Machine

The behaviour-graph layer inside a Rive (.riv) file that maps inputs - booleans, numbers, triggers - to animation state transitions. The state machine is what lets a single .riv file respond to live application events without exporting separate animations per state.

Zero-Party Data

Information a customer voluntarily and explicitly shares with a brand - preferences, intentions, personal context. Distinct from first-party (observed behavior), second-party (partner-shared), and third-party (purchased) data, and the most reliable input for personalisation in 2026.

Behavioral Intervention

A behavioral intervention is an action a website takes during a visit, in response to what a visitor is doing, such as offering help when someone is about to leave.

Holdout Group (Causal Lift)

A holdout group is a randomly chosen slice of your audience that gets no campaign, so you can measure the real, incremental lift a program produces.

In-Session Engagement

In-session engagement is any interaction between a website and a visitor that happens during the same browser session, before the visitor leaves.

Intent Signal

An intent signal is something a visitor does — scrolling, hovering, lingering — that hints at how likely they are to buy or convert.

RAG over Website

RAG over website is the application of retrieval-augmented generation specifically to a website's own content — pages, FAQ, policies, product catalog — so that an AI agent on that site can answer with the site's facts rather than generic LLM knowledge.
